Abstract

207,926. Were, E. J. Sept. 30, 1922. Closure members, hinged. - A throttle valve a of the butterfly type is provided with a bye-pass aperture, c arranged at such an angle that when the valve is opened the flow of fluid past the faces of the valve will cause a suction in the bye-pass opposing that occasioned by the 'difference in pressure between the faces. The bye-pass may be arranged in the half of the vavle which opens towards the high pressure side and so as to be at right-angles to the axis of the pipe b when the valve is closed. The valve may be used in combination with a carburettor of the type set forth in Specifications 193,612, and 200,978, [both in Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting apparatus &c. for], and the bye-pass may be arranged so as to cause a jet of air to impinge on the main orifice of the carburettor.
