Abstract

206,885. Turner Tanning Machinery Co., Ltd., and Schettler, G. A. June 20, 1922. Reciprocating-tool apparatus.-The tool-holder 7, Fig. 2, is suspended from the bar 1 which has a parallel motion relative to the bed, in such a manner that while its rear end is rigidly supported as by a link 9, its forward end is resiliently supported in such a manner that this end exerts a comparatively light pressure on the work, the arrangement being generally such that the tool or tools operate on the work with a constant pressure during the working stroke. As shown, the head 4 of the connecting-rod 5 is pivoted at its upper end to the bar 1, and the tool-holder 7 is suspended from its lower end by a bell-crank lever 6, the tail of the lever engaging a spring 8 so as to permit the forward end of the toolholder to yield; a screw 8<a> is provided for adjusting the pressure of the spring, and an adjustable stop 4<c> serves to regulate the pressure exerted by the forward end of the tool. The tool may be an electrically heated iron 7a, Fig. 2, or it may be provided with a plurality of V-shaped blades 14, Fig. 4, or a number of glass cylinders 15, Fig. 5.
