Abstract

A shoe 3 is provided with a slot 32 in its sole to facilitate the detachable mounting either of roller assemblies 10 or of an ice skate blade. The roller assemblies are carried by brackets 12 secured to rigid strips 20, 21 which engage in the slot, one end of each strip being received in respective recesses 34, 35 at the ends of the slot. The other ends of the strips overlap, a threaded stud 27 being provided as shown for receipt of a nut 28. A filler strip may be placed in the slot to allow the shoe to be used for normal walking. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Detachable skate mounting The object of this invention is to provide an improved detachable mounting of an ice or roller skate on a boot or shoe which can be readily and firmly mounted in position of use or detached with a quick release actiorr and which obviates the use of straps or clamps. A further feature of the invention is the provision of a boot or shoe such as a sports type shoe formed for receiving the skate mounting. Practical advantages of the invention in this and other respects will be apparent from the following disclosure.
According to the invention a detachable skate mounting is characterised by attachment means carrying secured thereto skate rollers or an ice skate blade, which means is adapted to be received by recessing therefor in the sole or similar underpart of a boot or shoe and to releasably extend into retentive engagement with co-operating formation of the recessing or receiving means fixed therein.
In practice the construction and arrangement may be as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 is a sectional elevation showing the detachable mounting of a roller skate to a sports type shoe, FIGURE 2 is an underside plan view, and FIGURE 3 is a side elevation of a filler piece.
The rollers or roller assemblies 10 of the skate 1 which may be of any suitable form are secured by brackets 12 to corresponding elongate members or rigid strips 20,21 of the attachment means 2 which, in turn, is received by a longitudinal recess or slot 32 in the sole 30 or general underpart of the shoe 3.
In orderto provide such a mounting of suitable extent, the sole 30 and heel 31 preferably provide a continuous flat surface at the underpart of the shoe, i.e. in the manner shown.
The strips 20, 21 overlap at a central part of the attachment means 2 for which purposethe end part of one of the strips, e.g. the forward strip 20 is shown cranked at 22 to receive the plain end part 23 of the other or rear strip 21. The plain end part 23 is shown provided with a threaded stud 27 which passes downwardly through a hole 26 in the cranked end 22 of the forward strip 20 and receives a nut 28 provided with or formed as a knob for ease of manual operation.
The front and rear ends of the recess 32 have a re-entrant or similar formation shown consisting of slots 34,35 which receive corresponding ends 24, 25 of the strips 20,21 and in mounting the attachment means 2 in position of use the rear strip 21 is engaged by its rear end 25 with the rear slot 35 and the forward strip 20 is similarly engaged by its leading end 24 with the front slot 34. The perforated cranked end 22 of the forward strip 20 is engaged overthe stud 27 and the two strips 20,21 are pressed into the recess 32 so as to fully thrust the ends 24, 25 into retentive engagement with the slots 34, 35 which engagement is firmly retained by screwing and tightening the nut 28 on the stud 27. This causes the two strips 20, 21 to act as a rigid member and so securely lock the attachment means 2 in the recess 32.
Conversely the strips 20,21 c6n be quickly disengaged from the shoe by unscrewing and removing the nut 28 and withdrawing the strips 20, 21 from the recess 32 complete with the roller assemblies 10.
As well as the quick release action, firm mounting of the skate 1 on the shoe 3 is obtained to withstand rigorous use of the skate 1 and for this purpose that part of the sole 30 containing the recess 32 should be of fairly hard strong and durable material, e.g. of suitable rubber and/or plastic composition. If desired the recess 32 and slots 34, 35 may be reinforced with a lining of metal or other hard wearing material.
In the sports shoe shown the sole 30 is surmounted by one or more upper layers 36 of more resilient rubber or plastic material whilst the shoe upper 33 is preferably re-inforced, e.g. at the ankle portions to provide firm support of a foot received by the shoe.
The brackets 12 carrying the roller assemblies 10 are shown including fore and aft pivotal connection 13, 14 and cushioning 15 in the usual manner. Whilst the forward pivot pin 13 is downwardly extended to carry a front buffer stop 16.
In addition to the manner in which the skate roller assemblies 10 can be readily mounted on the shoe 3 and quickly removed from it, the mounting provided by the attachment means 2 is of neat appearance without undesired projections. Furthermore when the skate 1 is removed the shoe 3 is of normal appearance and can be used in the normal manner.
For this purpose a removable filler strip 4 (FIGURE 3) of the same or similar material to that of the sole 32 can be provided of sufficient resilience to enable end tongues 44, to be retentively engaged with the end slots 34,35 of the recess 32.
Although the attachment means has particular practical application to the mounting of a roller skate 1 on a boot or shoe 3 it is also applicable to the mounting of an ice skate blade of any suitable form in which case bracket mounting between the attachment means 2 would have a pivotal connection to the blade to permit of engagement of the attachment means 2 with the slots 34,35 or similar formation of the recess 32 or dis-engagement therefrom.
It is to be understood that various modifications may be made within the scope of the invention herein defined. Thus the attachment means 2 may consist of a single blade spring to which the brackets 12 are secured and which can be flexed for engagement and dis-engagement of its ends with the slots 34,35 or similar formation of the recess 32. Alternatively the attachment means 2 may releasably engage co-operating slotted or like receiving means fixed in the recess 32.
1. Our claim is for a detachable skate mountings and as a quick release mechanism, and therefore anything similar or alike will infringe out invention.
2. Our invention offers a detachable skate mountings were the shoe or sport type shoe can be used as

1. Our claim is for a detachable skate mountings and as a quick release mechanism, and therefore anything similar or alike will infringe out invention.
2. Our invention offers a detachable skate mountings were the shoe or sport type shoe can be used as a normal everyday shoe when the mountings are not attached.
3. The purpose of the slots in the sole of the shoes are for the rigid strips which houses the mountings, and anything similar or alike would infringe our invention.
4. The blades (or rigid strips) when firmley placed in the slots are securley fixed by screwing and tightening of the wing nut on to the threaded stud, anything of this nature orsimilarwould infringe our invention.
5. The combination of the two overlapping rigid strips (figures 20/21 as shown in our discription) enables the easy action of the slotting it into the sole of the shoe and then securing by the action of screwing the nut onto the threaded stud. Any combination or similar action of two rigid strips into the sole of the shoe would infringe our invention.
