Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in cases for umbrellas The invention relates to cases for umbrellas.
According to the invention there is provided a case for an umbrella, the case comprising a handle or sling attached to or forming part of the case.
The case may comprise a compartmentfor storing the handle or sling.
The compartment may be elongate and may be closable by means of a zip fastener. The compartment may extend along a greater part of the length of the case, and the handle or sling may be attached to the case within the compartment, one end of the handle or sling being attached to the case at oradjacent one end of the compartment, the other end of the handle or sling being attached to the case ator adjacent the other end of the compartment.
The handle or sling may be longer than doubieffle distance between the points of attachment of the handle or sling.
The case may further comprise a hanging loop.
The invention further provides an umbrella comprising a case according to the invention.
By way of example, one embodiment of a case according to the invention for an umbrella will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a perspective view of a case with an open sling compartment.
An umbrella case 10 is of a fabric or plastics mater ial, for example a material woven from the man made fibre nylon (Registered Trade Mark). The case 10 consists of a tube having at one end an opening 11 through which an umbrella may be slid, and at the other end an opening 12, smaller than the opening 11 through which a ferrule of an umbrella may pass, but not a complete umbrella. The material at the opening 12 is gathered and an elasticated portion 13 is provided to allow some expansion of the opening 12. As an alternative to the elasticated portion 13, a metal or plastics end cap could be secured to the: case.
A handle in the form of a sling 14 is attached il;Dthe described embodiment by sewing to the case 1 Oat two spaced apart positions 15, 16. The length ofthe sling 14 is greater than twice the distance between the positions 15 and 16.
The case 10 has a single longitudinal seam 17 and intermediate the ends of the case 10, a zip fastener 18 is sewn into allow an opening to be formed. An additional panel 19 of material is sewn between the two parts of the zip fastener 18 so that a compartment 20 is formed extending along the greater part of the length of the case 10, operation of the zip fastener 18 opening or closing the compartment.
Means other than a zip fastener may be used to allow the compartment to be opened or closed. The points of an attachment 15, 16 of the sling are inside the compartment 20, so that the sling 14 can be completely packed away in the compartment 20. It will be appreciated that the tube through which an umbrella passes is formed partly by the additional panel 19, which panel divides the tube for the umbrella from the compartment 20.
A loop 21 is provided to allow the case to be having form a hook orthe like.
1, A case for an umbrella, the case comprising a handle or sling attached to or forming part of the case 1 A case as claimed in Claim 1 comprising a compartment for storing the handle orsling.
3. A case as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the compartment is closable..
4. A case as claimed in Claim 3 wherein the compartment is closable by means of a zip fastener.
5. A. case as claimed in Claim 2, Claim 3or Claim 4 wherein the compartment is elongate.
6. A case for an umbrella as claimed in Claim 5 wherein the compartment extends along a greater part of the length of the case.
7. A case as claimed in any one of Claims 2 to 5 wherein the handle or sling is attached to the case within the compartment 8. A case as claimed in Claim 7 as dependent on Claim 5 or Claim 6 wherein one end of the handle or sling is attached to case at or adjacent one end of the compartment and the other end of the handle or sling is attached to the case at or adjacent the other end of the compartment.
9. A case as claimed in Claim 8 wherein the handle or sling is longer than double the distance between the points of attachment of the handle or sling.
10. A case as claimed in any preceding claims comprising a hanging loop.
11. A case for an umbrella substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
