Description
SPECIFICATION
Straightening machine for metal sheets and strips
The present invention relates to a metal-sheet or strip straightening machine. Such a straightening machine is disclosed in German publication DE-OS 27 31 234.
When designing metal-sheet or strip straightening machines the metal sheet thickness, extension limit of the material, and width of the metal sheet are decisive. The diameter and separation of the straightening rollers used are determined either from the maximum straightening force or from the maximum torque to be transmitted. If the separation of the straightening rollers is fixed, then taking into account the necessary maximum deformation (excess extension) of the metal sheet, the minimum sheet thickness and hence the thickness range, to be straightened is predetermined. For the purpose of straightening very wide, thick metal sheets, large roller diameters must be selected, e.g. because of the moments to be transmitted. In order to obtain the necessary resistance to torsion large roller diameters, also a greater roller separation than in the case of narrower metal sheets, must be selected. Thus, the ability to straighten thinner metal sheets is greatly restricted.
It is already known that the straightening range of sheet-metal straightening machines can be enlarged to include thinner metal sheets if the metal sheet is suddenly deformed to a lesser degree by subsequently-arranged straightening rollers after maximum bending by intensive deformation rollers. Therefore, in a known straightening machine, the upper and lower straightening rollers are individually vertically adjustable. For the purpose of improving the entry of the metal sheet between the intensive deformation rollers, the latter is preceded by a driver which imparts a pushing force to the leading end of the metal sheet.
An object of the invention is to provide a metal sheet straightening machine in which the straightening range is enlarged in a constructionally simple manner to include even thinner metal sheets or thin sheets with greater strength, and also to improve the rigidity of the
machine frame.
The invention provides a metal-sheet or strip
straightening machine comprising upper and
lower straightening rollers mounted in a main frame and an intensive-deformation unit arranged
upstream thereof, the said unit comprising a further frame mounting an entry roller, a non
driver intensive-deformation roller of smaller
diameter supported by support rollers and a
subsequent driven straightening-roller pair for
gripping a thin sheet or strip and pulling it through the said unit and feeding it to the straightening rollers.
By arranging the intensive deformation unit outside the main frame, the main frame can be constructed shorter than previously. By providing individual adjustment of the rollers of the intensive deformation unit it is thus possible to provide common adjustment of the straightening rollers within the main frame and thereby a reduction of the construction height. In this way a compact main frame having great rigidity is achieved, this being necessary in particular for straightening heavy sheets.
For the purpose of straightening thin sheets, the intensive deformation unit is brought into operation. Thus, it is now possible to use an intensive deformation roller having a considerably smaller diameter than the straightening rollers mounted in the main frame for the purpose of maximum deformation of thin metal sheets. The metal sheet is conveyed within the intensive deformation unit by the pulling effect of the driven rollers which act simultaneously as straightening rollers. In this way the straightening range is considerably enlarged to include thinner metal sheets or thin harder metal sheets, in comparison with the known straightening machines.
Preferably, mechanical adjuster means are provided for the intensive deformation roller mounted below the metal-sheet path and the lower driven straightening roller. These may be advantageously adjustable wedge members.
The entry roller and the upper driver straightening roller may be adjustable by means of pressure-medium cylinders, the adjustment in the direction of the metal-sheet path being limited by stops.
Alternatively, the intensive deformation roller may be mounted above, and the entry roller may be mounted below, the metal-sheet path.
Preferably, the frame of the intensive straightening unit is releasably connected to the main frame of the straightening machine.
In a particularly simple construction the straightening rollers of the main frame are commonly adjustable, and the lower straightening rollers are non-adjustably mounted.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows in longitudinal section a straightening machine incorporating an intensive deformation unit.
In the drawing a straightening machine has lower straightening rollers 1 and support rollers 2 therefor both mounted in a lower roller housing 3, which is anchored on a lower cross-beam 4 of a main frame 5. Upper straightening rollers 6 and support rollers 7 therefor are both mounted in an upper roller housing 8, which is guided on an upper cross-beam 9 of the main frame 5 and which is vertically adjustable and tiltable thereon by means of spindle drives 10, 1 1 mounted thereon.
A frame 12 of an intensive deformation unit is connected to the outside of the main frame 5. The intensive deformation unit comprising an upper entry roller 13, a lower non-driven intensive deformation roller 15 supported by support rollers 14 and having a smaller diameter than the straightening rollers 1,6 and a subsequentlyarranged, driven, straightening roller pair 1 6, 17.
Chucks 18, 19 of the entry roller 13 and the upper driver straightening roller 16, respectively, are mounted for common sliding movement between side walls of the frame 12 and the main frame 5. Piston rods 20, 21 of adjuster cylinders 22, 23 fixed to the frame 12 are pivotally connected to the chucks 18, 19 respectively. The downward movement of the chucks 18 towards the metal sheet surface is limited by abutments 24.
The intensive deformation roller 15 is mounted in chucks 25 which are movable, together with chucks 26 of the lower driver straightening rollers 17, between abutments 24, arranged on the frame 12, and the side wall of the main frame 5.
The chucks 25 are adjustably supported on a longitudinally-displaceable wedge member 28 by means of intermediate members 27. The wedge member 28 is slidable on a stationary wedge member 29. In the same manner the chucks 26 are adjustably supported on a displaceable wedge member 31 by means of intermediate members 30. The wedge member 31 is slidable on a stationary wedge member 32.
The straightening machine operates as follows:
Thick sheets are conveyed by a roller bed 33 through the open intensive deformation unit to the straightening rollers 1,6 and straightened there.
For the purpose of straightening thinner metal sheets, the intensive deformation unit is adjusted as soon as the leading end of the metal sheet arrives in the region of the driven straightening rollers 16, 17. Thereafter the driven straightening rollers 1 6, 1 7 pull the metal sheet through the intensive deformation unit and push the leading end of the metal sheet between the driven straightening rollers 1, 6 for final straightening.
