Abstract
206,089. Westlake, C. T. March 26, 1923. Couplings, axle-trucks used as.-In a car structure adapted for union with an adjacent car structure by a common truck, side bearings at opposite sides of the end of each are located at different distances from the longitudinal centre line of the car in such a manner that the opposing bearings of the two car bodies supported upon a common truck can move past each other without interference. The side bearings 9, 10 attached to the end sill of the vehicle 1 are unequally spaced from the centre pivot 15 mounted on the truck bolster 8 and bear upon the truck side bearing plates 13, 14 respectively. Similar side bearings 11, 12 are attached to the end sill of the opposing vehicle 2 and bear upon the side bearing plates 13, 14, the spacing of the side bearing '11, 9 or 12, 10, enabling them to pass one another on their respective truck side bearings when relative motion occurs between the two cars on curves. The socket for the centre pivot, and both side bearings attached to each end of the sill, are bent downwardly and outwardly to bear on the truck bolster 8.
