Abstract
A means of actuating the guide bars (3) of a warp knitting machine, wherein the pressure point (8) between the shogging lever roller (7) and the corresponding chain link (6) on the pattern drum (5) is altered stepwise from one shogging lever (1a) to the next or from one group of levers to the next so as to effect a sequential actuation of the guide bars. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION Warp knitting machines
This invention relates to a warp knitting machine having a plurality of guide bars controlled by a pattern drum via shogging levers.
In the case of machines of this kind it has already been proposed to extend the underlapping times of the pattern guide bars, in order to obtain long shogging lengths without reduction in speed, by actuating the pattern guide bars so that the bars underlap in succession, either individually or in groups, when swinging inwards or outwards.
An object of the invention is to move the guide bars sequentially in the aforementioned manner, using particularly simple and advantageous means.
According to the present invention, a warp knitting machine has a plurality of guide bars controlled by a pattern drum guiding pattern chains engaged by rollers on shogging levers, the guide bars being arranged so that they successively underlap singly or in groups during the inward or outward swing, the pressure point between the shogging lever roller and the corresponding chain link on the pattern drum differing stepwise from one shogging lever to the next or from one group of levers to the next.
The steps in question may be extremely small, so that the resulting changes in the effective lengths of the shogging levers have no appreciable effect on the guide-bar motion, but the individual levers come into operation in sequence, without requiring any corresponding changes in the profiles of the chain links or in the relative positions of the pattern chains in the peripheral direction of the drum.
One possible way of carrying the invention into effect is to mount the shogging levers via eccentrics on a pivot axle, the angular position of the eccentric offset relative to the axis of the axle being varied stepwise from one shogging lover to the next or from one group of levers to the next.
In an alternative construction, the distance between the shogging lever roller axis and the pivot axis of the shogging lever varies stepwise from one lever to the next. In a further alternative construction, the shogging levers are mounted to pivot about a common axis which is inclined.to the shogging lever plane.
The invention may be carried into practice in various ways but the pattern mechanism of one warp knitting machine embodying the invention and two possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows part of the pattern mechanism of a warp knitting machine using a pattern drum and shogging levers and showing the position of one of the shogging levers;
Figures 2 and 3 show the positions of another two of the shogging levers;
Figure 4 shows a possible modification in which the shogging levers all pivot about a common axis but have different effective lengths; and
Figure 5 shows a further modirication in which the common lever pivot axis is inclined.
The warp kc,P'ring machine of which part of the pattern mechanism is shown in Figure 1 has a plurality of guide bars 3 which are mounted alongside one another so that only one is visible in
Figure 1. Each guide bar is biased to the right as seen in Figure 1 by a spring and may be moved to the left in conventional manner by a shogging lever 1 via a push rod 2. The levers are mounted on a common axle 4 and the motion of each is controlled, via a roller 7, by chain links 6 guided on a pattern drum 5. The individual links form a pressure point 8 between the odium and the lever.
Each lever 1 is mounted on the axle 4 by an eccentric 9, the rotational position of the offset of which can be adjusted from lever to lever or from one group of levers to another. The effect of rotating an eccentric 9 is to move the pressure point 8 up or down as viewed in Figure 1 and since the levers are all of the same dimensions adjustment of the eccentric of one lever reiative to another wiil adjust the position of the pressure point 8 relative to that of the other.
For example, the shogging lever 1 a shown in
Figure 1 which is on one side of the pattern mechanism (i.e. is at the front as viewed in Figure 1) has its eccentric arranged so that its offset is perpendicular to the line joining the axis of the axle 4 to the pressure point 8 and the angular position of the eccentric axis 1 0 relative to the pivot axis 4 may be said to be zero.The shogging lever 1 b shown in Figure 2 is substantlally in the middle of the pattern mechanism and has its offset aligned with and overlying the line joining the axis of the axle 4 to the pressure point 8 and thus has an angular position of +9Q whereas the lever 1 C shown in Figure 2 which is a-L Lhe other side of the pattern mechanism (i.e. at the back as viewed in Figure 1) has an angular position of 90 . The intermediate levers have their eccentrics positioned progressively between these extreme angular positions, so that the pressure point 8 varies stepwise in the vertical direction 11 from one lever to another.As a result, without any change in the profiles of the links 6, the levers actuate the bars 3 in stepwise succession, thus obtaining a sequential motion of the guide bars during underlapping.
In the modified construction shown in Figure 4 the same object is obtained in that the distance 12 between the axis 1 3 of the shogging lever roller 7 and the pivot axis varies stepwise from one lever to another, i.e. from levers 1 a to 1 C in the example but this is achieved not with eccentric mounting on the axle 4 but by mounting the rollers 7 at different distances from the axis of the axle 4.
In the modification shown in Figure 5, the distance 12 between the axis 13 of the shogging lever roller 7 and the axis of the axle 4a is kept constant but the axis of the axle 4a is inclined relative to the planes of the levers 1 and the levers are mounted on the axle by correspondingly oblique bores 14.
In the case of each of the three constructions described, the guide bars are controlled so that they successively underlap singly or in groups during the inward or outward swing.
