Force-feed lubricating.-In a lubricating-system for the parts of a ship in which the supply is subjected to the static head of the ship's draught, the circulation of lubricant is controlled by an adjustable valve in the outlet from the parts to be lubricated. The bottom of a vessel 2 containing lubricant is connected by a pipe 3 with the tunnel service pipe 4 or other means of communication with the water outside the ship, the lubricant being displaced by the static head of water down a stand-pipe 6 to the stern-tube 8. From the tube 8 the lubricant passes to a pipe 9 which discharges through an adjustable valve 12 and an outlet 11 into a vessel 1. The pipe 9 may have an outlet 10 to the atmosphere above the water-line 5. When the vessel 2 is exhausted of lubricant, the water valve 13 is closed, the water is drained through a valve 14, and the vessel 2 is refilled from the vessel 1 through a valve 15.
