Sleepers, composite; tie-bars; creeping of rails, preventing. - In reinforced-concrete pot sleepers with an embedded tubular socket for the tie-bar, as described in Specification 132.424, the socket is exposed at one end only. The tie-bar b is secured by a cotter &c. d in the socket c which is closed at one end and serves to position the reinforcement in the mould. The reinforcement comprises upper and lower rods e, f tied together and to the socket either by rods h, Fig. 3, or by arms k, l, Fig. 6, on the socket c. The rods e, f may be secured to and positioned by abrasionresisting bars g, j, the bars g receiving the rail seat and the bars j preventing damage from beater-picks, or the bars g may be replaced by extensions on the arms k. The rods e, f may also be positioned by extending the rods h to the surface of the sleeper, being protected by a flush cement or brass cap. The bars g may have recesses to receive creep-pins. Canting of the socket in the mould may be prevented by placing beneath the upper part and engaging the socket a block which may be secured to or be integral with the mould, or instead of or in addition to the block, a pin may be passed through the cotter holes in the socket and through holes in the mould.
