Abstract

15,303. Hollick, H. June 26. Safety wheels for motor and other cycles are arranged on horizontal axles standing out at rightangles on each side of the plane of the machine and are connected up to the front or steering-wheel fork or axle so as to be turned therewith in steering. The wheels 2 are mounted on short axles, which may be carried by the outer ends of the bar or bracket supporting the footboards or by a speciallyprovided bar or tube 4 secured to the forward, crank-case bracket or other fixed part of the machine. The short axles are mounted on vertical pivots 6 provided with short arms 8, whereby they are connected to the front-wheet axle or forks by rods 9 and links 10. The pivots 6 may work against shock-absorbing springs. The machine fitted with these safety-wheels may be provided at one or each side with a side-car attachment unfurnished with the usual castor or supporting-wheel. According to the Provisional Specification, the connecting or guiding-rod is cone-shaped at its end and slides through the small wheel at the axle-bearing.
