Abstract
8803. Ridderstad, C. F. G. April 7. Nets.-A trawl net has parts 12, 13 formed in it of mesh which is rectangular and of such size as to allow small fish to escape, the long side, Fig. 2, of the rectangular mesh being parallel to or at right-angles to the longitudinal direction of the net. Guide-nets 15, 16 are provided to take the fish past these parts. In a modification, openings are formed in the net, and an inner net of rectangular mesh is joined mainly along four longitudinal lines to the outer net. The inner net allows small fish to escape to the openings, but conducts larger fish to the cod end. Fixed guide-nets terminating in wavy parts are provided to take the fish past the walls of the inner net. The net is strengthened at the open parts or windows by ribs of cane or wire.
