Abstract
22,303. Pierpont, F. H., and Lanston Monotype Corporation. Oct. 3. Moulds, low-quad. Relates to means fur casting low quads which is controlled by variations in the movement of the matrix - clamping mechanism. The cut-off section of the mould-blade is positively moved in each direction by a lever E and two actuating-levers C, C<1>, either of which may be operated by the centring-lever 9 through an horizontally-swinging interponent B. The interponent is adjusted by a projection on the head D<1> which is carried by the centring-pin 8 and supports the lower end of the compression spring 12. Normal matrices permit the centring-pin to descend so far that the head D<1> does not affect the interponent. The special low-quad matrix or blank prevents the descent of the centring-pin so that the head D' moves the interponent into its other position. Specifications 8633/99 and 18,231/06 are referred to.
