Abstract

6566. Hughes, J. H., and Hayward, E. G. March 17. Linear - dimension gauges for measuring the diameter or circumference of cylindrical or other bodies of formal shape consist of a member having two diverging plates 2, 3, which are placed against the body 5 to be measured, as shown in Fig. 2, and a central projection 4 in which is a slide 7 pressed forward by a spring 11 so as to contact with the body 5. The slide may have lateral extensions 8, 9 parallel to the plates 2, 3. A plate 14 on the slide moves in a slot in the part 4, and carries verniers which are read against scales at the sides of the slot, giving the diameter and circumference of the body 5. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 221/78 and 6055/03.
