Toothed gearing.-Relates to variable intermittent transmission gearing, applicable to prepayment vending-machines for supplying gas, water, electricity, &c., of the kind in which a pair of juxtaposed mutilated wheels are secured together with capability of relative angular adjustment to form a compound variable mutilated driving-wheel, and comprises an improved form of locking-device for automatically locking the driven wheel during the part of a rotation in which it is not in engagement with the toothed portion of the driving-wheel. The compound variable mutilated driving-wheel is formed of a pair of juxtaposed mutilated wheels b, e adjustably secured together by means of a screw e passing through a slot d in the disk c and screwing into the disk b. The driven pinion f is locked during the ineffective portion of the rotation of the driving- wheel by means of a pivoted pawl or locking member g having longitudinal and lateral extensions j and k co-operating respectively with pins or the like l and m on the respective disk members b and c. As the driving-wheel rotates in the direction of the arrow, the pin l engages the part throwing the locking-part g into action when the toothed portion of the periphery becomes disengaged from the driven pinion; the pin m engaging the part k throws the locking-part out of action as the toothed portion comes again into operation. The arrangement of the pins upon the respective disks renders the locking-device effective whatever the relative adjustment of the disks.
