Coupling.-To secure firmly the end of a colliery or other wire rope within the socket of the divided coupling - member a, a core - piece b, having enlargements b<1>, is embedded within the strands c, the socket being formed with corresponding enlargements. a<3>. The core enlargements may have grooves b<2> to accommodate the strands. In a modification, shown in Fig. 5, suitable for a rope having strands spirally arranged around a central member, the core, provided with enlargements b<1>, is grooved at b<3> along its whole length to accommodate the central member of the rope.
