Abstract
1927. Luxmoore, W. J. Jan. 24. Protectors, construction of; protectors, securing.- A heel-shaped ring B, Fig. 1, of rubber or rubber composition is sprung over the prepared lower part of the heel so as to lie flush with both its tread and sides. The ring may be wider at those parts subjected to greatest wear. The heel may be provided with fixed or loose pins, to assist in holding the ring in position. In some cases, the ring is sprung over a top lift, and the composite tread is then secured to the heel by nails etc.; this is particularly applicable in the case of circular protectors. Figs. 4 and 5 show a modified construction, in which the breast of the protector consists of one or more wires F secured in eyelets G. These wires are placed in grooves H in the heel breast, and the protector is then sprung into position as before. The heel or top lift, or both, are preferably made of Syrolit, a material described in Specification 13,601/09, [Class 22, Cements &c.].
