Abstract

8408. Sabroe, A. April 9. Cow - milkers. - A teat-cup for a suction milking - machine is made with a chamber a at its base containing a piston g carrying a smaller piston e, the lower end of which is exposed to the atmosphere, and which is equal in diameter to the aperture b between the cup and the chamber a. The milk and suction pipe d communicates with both the upper and lower parts of the chamber a. When the milk ceases to flow, the outlet b of the cup is closed by the piston g as described in Specification 11,177/09. An air inlet h in the piston g or cup wall v then allows the pressure in the cup to rise until the pressure on the upper end of the piston g balances the atmospheric pressure on the piston e, and the suction beneath the piston g opens the passage b and allows any milk to escape, again producing vacuum in the cup and thus closing the passage b. A pulsating action is thus set up in the cup. The piston g may be replaced by a ball or diaphragm, the piston e being if necessary elongated to coact with it. If the chamber a is slightly enlarged so as to fit the piston &c. loosely, the upper passage f can be dispensed with.
