Carding-engines; feeding carding-engines.- Apparatus for the production of slivers of kapock, which may be spun alone or with a core of cotton, linen, hemp, &c., comprises a carding-cylinder e, Fig. 2, surrounded by a smooth casing, or a carding-cylinder o, Fig. 3, through which the material is drawn by a cardcovered conveyor p. In the former arrangement, the material is fed by an endless belt b to a trough table c where a feed-roller u delivers it to a licker-in d, and is subjected to the action of a fancy roller f and a doffer g; in the latter arrangement, the material is delivered from the cylinder o to another carding-cylinder r, whence it passes to a levelling- belt s and heated calender-rollers t, and is finally wound on a bobbin v.
