9987. Fabre, J. B. E. April 25. Food for animals.-Feeding-cakes for cattle are prepared by mixing molasses which has been concentrated as far as 95-98 Brix. with a dry residue such as beetroot slices, brewers' grains, chopped fodder, and distillery, brewery, and like residues in a heated kneading-trough. The mixture is run into moulds. When the residue, which may not be pressed, is in a moist condition, it is mixed with the concentrated molasses, and the mixture is evaporated nearly to dryness, the drying being completed in storing-lofts. " Spangle " or other pulp may be added to the mixture, which is then filtered before drying. In addition to the abovementioned residues, oilcake, grape residues, waste grain, spoilt wine, the leaves &c. of beetroots and the like may be used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 14,662 /05, 23,346/06, 4850/07, and 18,773/09.
