Abstract
8612. Elberling, C. A. April 9. Folding and collapsible furniture; wardrobes; washstands.- Furniture such as wardrobes, bedsteads, washstands, tables, or chairs, is constructed of a flexible composite material made up, as shown in Fig. 1, of a series of laths secured side by side upon a suitable flexible backing such as canvas. The material is cut-out to the form of the intended article of furniture, and is maintained in shape by suitable stays such as 6. These stays are pivoted to the laths, and, in order to convert temporarily any portion of the flexible material into a rigid framework, the stays are turned at right-angles to the laths. Doors are made by making cuts, such as 5, in the material. The shelves of wardrobes, washstands, &c., the seats and backs of chairs, and the tops of tables are also constructed in this way.
