7399. Glover, A. W. March 24. Wood fuel, making. A machine for compressing fire-lighters is fitted with a fixed jaw b and a movable jaw e<1>, which is operated by an eccentric g mounted on a square part h of a shaft i, j, Fig. 5, provided with an operating- handle k. The parts i and j of the shaft are large and small, respectively. The jaw e<1> engages a slide in the jaw b throughout its entire travel. A movable bottom w and frame y, Fig. 7, may be employed to keep the sticks &c. p<1> in place. In a modification, the jaw e<1> is hinged. A wire-twisting device may be mounted on the fixed jaw b to twist the binding- wire. In another form of the apparatus, toggle mechanism is used in the place of the eccentric.
