Abstract

24,817. Cossor, F., and Guy, F. B. Oct. 28. Recording by co-ordinates.-The variation of the vacuum in steam condensers and turbines is recorded by means of a mercurial gauge. A wide overflow chamber a is connected to a column A of mercury, of sufficient length only to contain the levels which occur during service conditions; and a constriction l in the connecting-tube prevents injury to the short tube on a sudden rise to atmospheric pressure. A series of contacts c, d<1>, d<1> ... are detachably connected to electro-magnets, the connexions of which are arranged as shown so as to bring the armatures successively into or out of action, the armatures being connected as shown to recording arms F<1>, F2, F' which trace on a clockdriven drum G lines which show the duration of the different degrees of vacuum attained. Detachable connexions are employed with extra contacts in the mercury tube, so as to enable different ranges of vacuum to be recorded as desired. The overflow chamber a is connected with the chamber to be tested.
