Abstract

3357. Eglen, J. H. Feb. 11. Fatty oils, extracting.-A machine for extracting oil from palm and like nuts by detaching the fibres and treating with hot water comprises a rotatable casing 1, rotary stirrers 16, stationary stirrers 17, and, it may be, a liner 4 of perforated metal. The nuts are inserted together with boiling water by a hopper 6. After the extraction of the oil, the liquid is run off through a cock 8, and the apparatus is then rotated till the hopper 6 is lowermost for the discharge of the nuts. A catch 18 is provided for locking the casing in position. The apparatus may be heated in any suitable manner, as by the admission of steam.
