Abstract

10,818. Scott, W. May 19. Stopping tubes.-A device for stopping boiler tubes comprises a rod A having a conical plug B, on which a conical sleeve D of copper &c. is expanded after the device has been inserted in the tube from the front of the boiler, by the longitudinal thrust of a nut G on tubes E, C surrounding the rod A. The tube C has a flange C', and may have a conical part, not shown, which embraces the smaller end of the sleeve D. After the sleeve has been expanded, the tube E is withdrawn and a conical plug H is applied to the front end of the tube. When the rod A is in two parts, Fig. 4, thrust is transmitted past the joint by pegs e fixed to a flange E<1> on the tube E, and bearing against the flange C' on the tube C.
