Abstract
19,311. Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges. Sept. 26, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Incandescent lamps.-Tungsten incandescencebodies are made from nickel tungstate by reducing it to an alloy or intimate mixture of tungsten and nickel, and subsequently removing the nickel, after working, by passage of current in a vacuum. The tungstate may be mixed with powdered tungsten, or with tungstic acid or a like reducible compound, to obtain a suitably proportioned ductile alloy. This may contain from 5 to 20 per cent of nickel, 12 per cent being preferred. Reduction may be effected by heating in a stream of hydrogen, the temperature being raised to about 1650‹ C. for a short time to form the alloy. If plastic colloidal tungsten compounds such as are described in Specifications Nos. 11,716 and 16,489, A.D. 1907, and No. 11,710, A.D. 1908, are mixed with the tungstate, rods or filaments may be made without any other binder, and, after reduction and sintering, may be drawn or rolled and heated electrically, preferably in a vacuum, to expel the nickel.
