Abstract
17,729. Brunner, E. Aug. 24. Smoke-consuming.-Air for secondary combustion is supplied by a fan or air-propeller through heating-pipes E having internal spiral baffles e, as described in Specification No. 14,141, A.D. 1907, to distributing-boxes D situated behind the bridge, and in the case of water-tube boilers, alongside the fire-bars. The openings in the tops of the distributing-boxes are formed to supply the heated air in a direction opposed to that of the furnace gases. In Lancashire and like boilers the airheating pipes may pass through the bottom and main flues as shown, or through the side and bottom flues to pipes in the ash-pit. In marine boilers the heating-pipes are placed in the smokebox. In water-tube boilers the air is heated in pipes E, Fig. 11, passing through the flues and combustion chambers, and is delivered to a chamber D situated behind or on top of the bridge, and to additional air chambers arranged on one or both sides of the furnace. Specification No. 22,725, A.D. 1906, is referred to.
