Piston pumps; cleaning while in use; waste liquid, catching and returning.-In a vehicle forming part of a tar-spraying apparatus, the pump is arranged outside the tar receptacle, and is provided with a cover and a pipe for conveying the liquid that has leaked past the piston back to the tank. Fig. 1 shows the apparatus.. The receptacle A, which may be surrounded by an air-jacket a<1>, is provided with a cover b supporting a pump D. The pump is provided with a cover d<2>, a pipe d<3> for conveying any leakage liquid back to the tank, and an air vessel j. The pipe k leads to a spraying-device for directing the tar &c. downwards on to the road surface. The sprayer is of the type in which the liquid enters radially and is thus rotated. A cock is fitted to allow the connexions to be drained. A valve f allows the introduction of petroleum &c. for dissolving any tar that may have solidified in the pump barrel.
