Abstract
16,597. Trier, W. A. Aug. 6. No Patent granted (Sealingfee not paid). Electro-magnets, attached to a suitable handle, are used as handtools for picking-up from places difficult of access small iron or steel objects ; a lamp may also be provided on the tool for examining such places. The form shown in Fig. 1 consists of a core 5 surrounded by the winding 6 and an iron sleeve 4. Current is supplied from an accumulator through the wires arranged as shown or carried straight through the handle, connexion being made by a spring pin 8 and central contact 7, the other end of the coil being earthed and connected to the insulated metal ring 10 by the switch 9. If required to be run from other sources of power, as for instance from lighting-mains, the winding is modified, or a resistance, which may be attached to or form part of the tool, is used. The lamp 11, carried in the handle when not in use as shown, may replace the electro-magnet ; or, according to the Provisional Specification, it may be used with a magnet of special form, such as a horseshoe, or be placed in a recess formed in the supporting-rod. This rod may be made of flexible tubing.
