Abstract

15,959. Pugh, J. V., Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd., Nelson, W. H., and Holroyd, V. A. July 27. [Patent of Addition to No. 14,042, A.D. 1908.] Handles; handle - bars.-In celluloid - covered handle-bars of the type described in Specification No. 14,042, A.D. 1908, in which enlargements are formed in the bar to provide grips for the rider's hands, the enlargements are formed in the celluloid tube b, prior to the fitting of the tube to the handle-bar, thus avoiding passing the whole length of the tube over an expanded part. The celluloid tube is immersed in hot water to soften it and is then expanded on a tapered plug, after which the plug is withdrawn and a handle shaped piece a of wood, cardboard, &c. inserted. The celluloid tube is then fitted to the handle-bar in the manner described in Specification No. 26,727, A.D. 1906, suitable pieces c being provided to cover the raw ends of the tube adjacent to the steering-head stem. The handle-shaped piece may be provided with tangs to prevent it from going too far on the bar, and may be fixed to the bar by coating it with some adhesive substance or by mechanical means such as a screw, bulging the handle-bar, or providing barbs in the bar. In some cases the grip a is inserted after the tube has been fitted to the bar.
