14,823. Dunn, F. P. July 13. Value -indicating apparatus ; indicating.-Relates to a weighing-scale for indicating the value of articles which vary in price per unit of weight. The weighing-lever 25, Fig. 5, fulcrumed on bearings 44, is bifurcated as shown in Fig. 4, and is provided with knife-edges 46 on which a bearing- piece 53, Fig. 8, for supporting the scale-pan is mounted. A link 56 and stand 40, Fig. 5, guide the pan in a vertical direction. One end of the lever 25 is connected by a link 26 and arm 23 to a shaft 20 to which is attached an indicator 18. The indicator is forked at the extremity and embraces a graduated scale 17, on each side of which are two rows of figures, as shown, for indicating weights and values respectively. The weighing-lever 25 is partly enclosed by a loaded indicator-controlling lever 30, fulcrumed on bearings 441, Fig. 4, and attached at one end to the shaft 20 by links 31, 24 as shown in Fig. 5. When the indicator 18 is at zero, the arm 24 is vertical and the downward pull of the arm 30 has no effect, but gradually increases in effect as the indicator is displaced. A dash-pot 34 is connected to the lever 25. The apparatus as described may be used as a simple weight scale or may be provided with a computing or value chart and be used as a computing scale. In the form shown in Fig. 3, an horizontal scale beam 60, is secured by two arms to the indicator-controlling lever 30. This scale-beam is graduated with priceper-unit-weight marks and is provided with a sliding poise 161. When the poise is set to the twopence mark as shown, the apparatus registers correctly the weight shown on the dial, Fig. 5, but for other positions of the poise the prices only are correctly indicated. Adjusting.-The weighing-lever 25 is accurately balanced by placing shot in the pan 45 and the bowl 25<1>.
