Abstract
2406. Dettmer, J. R. F. Feb. 3. Framing; tanks; bunkers; hatchways. - Comprises improvements in the construction and arrangement of vessels having topside water - ballast tanks, wherein the sides of the tanks are set back from alinement with the sides of the vessel. The sides a of the vessel are curved inwards at a point b at or about the water-line and are carried up to meet the hatchway coaming plates d to which the frames and plating are secured. The tanks are formed on the inclined sides c, the sides h being set back from alinement with the sides of the vessel, and the tops k extending from the gunwale to a point on the sloping sides c somewhat below the coaming plates d. The tanks are of uniform cross-section throughout their length and extend from the poop to the forecastle. In a vessel having the propelling-machinery amidships, a casing is provided which extends from the upper deck to the bunkers along the inner sides of the tank j. The hatchways are made as long as possible and extend throughout the vessel.
