Abstract

1035. Garsed, J. L. Jan. 16. Propelling.-The vibratory wings 1 of an aerial machine are driven by eccentrics or cranks 2, and means are provided for feathering the wings. In one arrangement, an arm 4, rigid with the plane, is pivoted to a rod 3 connecting the cranks 2, and a crank 6 of different throw to the cranks 2 is connected by a rod 5 to the lower end of the arm 4. The rotation of the cranks moves the plane up and down, and the plane assumes different inclinations on the up and down strokes owing to the action of the larger crank 6. In another form, the arm 4, Fig. 2. is secured to the rod 3 and is pivoted to the plane, on which is fixed an arm 9 connected to the rod 5. The rod 4 may be connected to the plane by a pivoted link 7, Fig. 3, and the plane is pivotally connected to the crank 6, which may be an extension of the crank 2. In another form, the plane may be pivoted directly on the arm 4, the crank 6 being connected to the plane through a pivoted link.
