Abstract

15,376. White, J., Booth, W. H., and Thomas, J. July 11. Golf clubs are provided with a solid striking- face of steel, iron, gun-metal, or other suitable metal, roughened or otherwise. A metal plate m is made to cover the striking-face, and also to protect the top and bottom of the club, as shown in Fig. 3, Sheet 1. The plate is attached to the wooden club by screws s, and is thickened at f<1> to balance and weight the club. If desired, the metal plate may be attached by nuts and bolts or by screws to the face of the club only, the club being weighted by lead ; or, the inner face of the metal plate m may be roughened, as in Fig. 3, Sheet 3, so as to grip the club face, and may be attached by screws s passing through the sole plate, which is thickened at f as above.
