Abstract
8206. Close, C., [trading as Whitley Partners]. May 3. Sliding valves.-A screw-down sliding valve, suitable for working under high pressure, is shown in the Figures. The spindle A, Fig. 1, is formed with a wedge B which engages with recesses. in the discs C. The recesses are slightly larger than the shoulders of the wedge, to allow the spring F to withdraw the discs from their seats and prevent vibration. The spring may work on a sleeve placed above the wedge in valves having rising and falling spindles. Variation in the length of the spindle due to changes of temperature is taken up by means of a spring L. Fig. 9, placed in a recess in the bridge M and working against a collar N on the spindle. In valves with a rising and falling spindle, the collar is formed on a screwed bush which surrounds the spindle.
