Abstract

199,958. Rodriguez, A. O. July 11, 1922. Metals, powdered, obtaining coherent masses from; alloys. - Intimate mixtures of metals, approximately in properties to alloys, are made by reducing the metals to a finely-divided state in which the particles of the softer metals are of larger size than the particles of the harder metal, mixing the whole, and submitting the mixture to kneading, pressure or like mechanical operation, whereby the particles of the harder metal are caused to penetrate or be distributed in the larger particles of the softer metal; the remaining particles of harder metal are then screened from the composite metal formed, and the latter is worked into bodies of the desired form. For example, a composite mass of lead and tungsten may be obtained by triturating a mixture of lead filings and fine tungsten powder, and pressing the mixture through an aperture in the form of a thread, which is broken up, screened, and moulded.
