Abstract

Alternating - current motors; exciting.-In an alternating-current motor adapted to start as an induction motor and to run as a synchronous motor and having its secondary member provided with a number of windings which are connected up fcr starting a n d for synchronous operation as described in Specification 158,373, the secondary windings are so connected for synchronous operation that a closed circuit independent of the source, of continuous.current excitation is formed in which damping currents can circulate, should the motor fall out of step. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 3, in which two three-phase Y- or delta-connected windings are provided on the secondary member, a starting-resistance is connected across one only of the two windings or across the two windings in parallel. For synchronous operation, the two windings A, B, C and D, E, F are connected together as shown so that damping circuits are formed independently of the source of continuous current G. In addition, the slip-rings 1, 2, 8, 9 may be connected to the slip-rings 5, 4, 12, 11 respectively. In the delta-arrangement, one or both of the windings B, F may be dispensed with since the continuous current does not pass through either of the windings.
