Abstract
195,576. Salter & Co., Ltd., G., and Bache, E. W. July 22, 1922. Spring balances; vibration, preventing; links.-Relates to spring balances of the type wherein the lever which supports the platform or receptacle is coupled to a second lever which operates the indicating mechanism and is under the influence of a spring, and consists in connecting the spring to the lever by means of a link or shackle in such a manner as to allow the spring to rotate 'relatively to the shackle during the operation of the balance. A goods-receptacle 1 is supported on knife-edges 48 on a lever 2, which is pivoted at one end on a bracket 4 and is coupled at the other by a link 6 to a lever 7. This lever 7 pivots about its centre on knife-edges 8 and is connected by a link 12 and crossbar 46 to a spring 11. The crossbar 46 is connected by a swivel to the link 12 to allow the spring to uncoil slightly as the load is applied. The indicating pointer 13 is mounted cn the lever 7 and is balanced by a weight 17. The movement of the lever 2 is limited by stops 34, rubber pads 35 being provided to prevent shock. The vibrations of the mechanism are damped by a dash-pot 38 connected to the lever 2. The effect of the dash-not mav be regulated by turning a rod 42 which operates a toothed disc 40, Fig. 3, having an aperture 45 adapted to register with an aperture 39 in the base of the dash-pot. The movement of the disc 40 is limited by a pin 43. In a modification the lever 2 is located at right-angles to the lever 7.
