Abstract
195,048. Aluminum Co. of America, (Assignees of Edwards, J. D.). March 18, 1922, [Convention date]. Alloys.-Antimony is added to aluminium alloys containing a substantial proportion of silicon. The silicon-aluminium alloy, which may contain 3-15 per cent of silicon, may be prepared by stirring silicon into molten aluminium at 750- 800 C. The antimony, preferably 0.5-1.5 per cent, may be added to the molten alloy in pulverized form. The iron content should preferably not exceed 0.6 per cent, but may reach 1.5 per cent. Copper or zinc may also be present. The molten alloy is preferably cooled quickly, as by chill casting. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the addition of bismuth to aluminium-silicon alloys. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
