Abstract
194,806. Boothby, F. L. M. Dec. 20, 1921. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Tanks.-Fuel tanks for motor boats comprise an inner container 1, Fig. 1 made of balloon fabric or other flexible material, which may be supported in an outer container of flexible or rigid material by elastic connections 3, with or without distance pieces 8 and additional inextensible connections adapted to rupture as a result of shock. The outer container may be similarly mounted in a fuselage. The pipes connected to the tank may be telescopic and may have flexible ends 13 held in sleeves 14 by elastic rings 15. A drain opening 11 closed by chamois leather 12 may be provided. The space between the containers may be filled with exhaust or other inert gases and/or sponge rubber, or with petrol displaced by gas pressure for producing the initial supply. In a modification the tank may consist of one vessel of flexible material divided by a flexible partition. In further modifications the bottom of the tank has a patch of goldbeater's skin or the tank may be made of or lined with goldbeater's skin, the filling pipe may be rotated to serve as a siphon for emptying, or the inner flexible tank may have pleats 30, Fig. 4, normally kept folded by fabric strips 31.
