Abstract

180,973. Hottinger, R. June 1, 1921, [Convention date]. Bandages; materials, special.-Metals, such as silver, deposited in a spongy state from a colloid solution, are employed as germicides. The metal may be deposited on a filter plate or cloth and used to sterilize water or other liquids, or on materials used for making bandages, surgical cloth shoes, wadding, dialyzing membranes, &c., which are thus rendered permanently sterile. The spongy deposit is obtained by reducing a solution of a silver salt, for example with formaldehyde and alkali, at a fairly rapid rate and by repeated deposition on the same surface. Specifications 13702/09, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], 29049/12, and 157,280, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], are referred to.
