Abstract

10,162. Gardner, J. May 4. Amusements for fairs and the like.-Balloons, or c a r s without balloons, ascend and descend vertically, being held b o t h above and below. A structure of the Eiffel tower type S is provided with two cantilevers C, C<1>. At their extremities are grooved pulleys P, P, around which and around pulleys beneath, not shown, pass ropes R, R<1> connected to two balloons B. The ends of the ropes may be connected to rods passing vertically through, and attached to, the balloons. Or two continuous ropes may be used, travelling in opposite directions, and passing through a vertical tube in each balloon, each rope being capable of being independently connected to the balloon by an ordinary cable grip. In addition, a separate fixed rope may also pass through the tube, to which the balloon can also be attached by a cable grip. In any case, the travelling rope or ropes pass around a winding-drum operated by power. Modifications may be made ; for example, instead of the tower a small securely-braced upright may be used, or the balloons may be omitted, cars being used by themselves. The balloons, when used, are inflated as usual.
