Abstract

17,682. Thompson, W. P., [Carey, N. J.]. Aug. 16. Slow - combustion stoves.-Relates to heat generators adapted for use alone, or attached to heating and cooking stoves, &c. Air is supplied to the fuel on the grate C by means of the dampers D and A<3>. The latter is in connection with the chamber A<2> formed between the external casing A' and the perforated inner wall A. Soft coal or coal slack is introduced through the aperture E<1>, and the combustion products escape through the flue B'. A flue B<3> conducts into the flue B<2> any unconsumed gases that may have penetrated the coked fuel. The perforations c of the part N of the wall A are downwardly directed. A sight-hole F is provided. When large masses of fuel are burned, a central hollow conical chamber is fitted having perforations c<1>. In modifications, the top of this central chamber is connected to a hollow ring having depending perforated pipes, or the central chamber is omitted and the ring communicates with the chamber A'.
