Abstract

Casting and moulding in situ.-Apparatus for the continuous supply of cement grout, concrete, &c. in the construction and repair of structures consists of one or more cylinders each having a piston operated by fluid pressure, and one or more mixing pans located above and supplying the cylinders. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the two cylinders act alternately as operating and pump cylinders, and the valves may be operated by hand or automatically. On opening the valve 18 and exhaust valve 24 of the cylinder 10, and the inlet valve 23a of the cylinder 10<a>, the piston 19<a> is driven outwards and material is discharged through the port 26<a>. At the same time, fresh material is drawn into the cylinder 10, and at the end of the stroke the operations are reversed and material is forced out through the port 26 to a common delivery nozzle. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which a separate doubleacting fluid-pressure cylinder 32 is placed between two double-acting pump cylinders, all three pistons being on a common rod. One pump cylinder may be omitted. In a further modification, a single cylinder has a piston 30, Fig. 6, moving freely therein or guided on a fixed rod 32 ; at each end are valves and ports for the supply and discharge of both operating fluid and material pumped. Cement &c. is fed by gravity through the valve 18 when the piston 30 is at the righthand end. The two-way valve 23a is then opened to admit the operating fluid, preferably steam or compressed air, and so discharge the material through the port 26. The operating fluid then exhausts the valve 23<a>, fresh cement is admitted by gravity at the right-hand end, and so on. For water pressure, exhaust valves such as 24, Fig. 1, are provided. The apparatus may be mounted on a motor chassis or railway truck and be driven from the propelling motor or by electrical means.
