Abstract

189,162. Adie, R. T., (Representative of Just, T. Wemyss-), and Campbell, C. A. June 13, 1921. Rotary spherical valves; wedging or jamming.-A valve for high pressures is provided with a spherical closure member working between seating members, which may be forced against the valve to ensure tightness. One of the seating members a is formed integrally with the outlet b and has a semi-spherical seating d. The other seating member g is held in position by the cover plate e* containing the inlet e. The spherical valve k has a passage j, and is carried by trunnions l, each having a curved cam groove m. A ring n rests against a shoulder h on the member g and carries a series of rods which are threaded at their free ends to constitute a nut for the member r. The rods o, p are each provided with a pin q engaging in the cam grooves m. The, member r carries a hand-wheel s, so that when turned to open the valve, the seat members a, g are first relieved of pressure and the valve k is then rotated to bring the passage j intoline with the inlet and outlet.
