Toothed wheels; racks.- A form of gear teeth for wheels and racks is based upon a line of action M, N generated by a point M on the end of a swinging arm AM, the pivot point A of which is net stationary, as in cycloidal teeth, but moves, as the arm swings, either in a straight line A, A<3> as shown or in an arc of a circle. In some forms, this action produces an enveloping form of gear teeth with improved wearing qualities. B<3>N indicates a tooth face produced by this means.
