Abstract
184,870. Barrett, W. A. May 19, 1921. Pneumatic separating.-In machines for separating granular materials during milling, of the kind in which an horizontal layer of the falling material is formed by a rotating horizontal disc, a current of air being drawn through the material, the disc is carried by an inverted cone surrounded by a stationary inverted cone, the upper part of which carries a vertical flange. Thongs to assist in spreading the material are carried by the disc. The material is fed to the disc A from a shoot D and the material is thrown out in an horizontal layer against a fixed cylindrical flange F carried by the surrounding cone E. A current of air x passes between the cones and up through the material and carries the lighter particles or dust into a V-shaped chamber G, the air passing, out at the top through an opening which may be covered with gauze. The bottom of the chamber G is fitted with a flap H which allows the dust or light particles to drop to a lower chamber which empties through a flap K when an amount larger than that necessary to open the flap H has collected, the suction, in the main chamber C being maintained by so arranging the flaps H, K that one is always closed. The heavy particles fall through the stationary cone E to the bottom of the chamber. The thongs on the rotating disc A are shown at L in Fig. 2.
