Abstract

184,406. Edwards, J. H. Nov. 2, 1921. Spouts; filters.-A pouring-spout for petrol tins &c. comprises a tube a, Fig. 1, provided at one end with a screw-threaded collar b or equivalent means, with which may be associated a washer, for securing it to a tin, and at the other end with a valve d normally held closed by a spring e but adapted to be opened when the spout is inserted into the filling opening of a tank &c. by the cranked stem d<1> contacting with the wall of the filling opening and so causing the valve to open. The valve illustrated comprises a pair of oval plates separated by felt or like packing- material d<2>. The spout embodies a conical filter g, Fig. 2, formed with a flattened tubular venting-orifice g<2> which serves to admit air to the tin being emptied but prevents the passage of liquid. Pouring ceases when the level of liquid in the tank covers the valve d, and upon withdrawing the tin the valve closes automatically. Stops f<1> limit the extent to which the tube can be inserted into the filling-opening of a tank &c. and may also serve for the manipulation of the device.
