Oscillating sieve.-For screening coal, coke, &c., the intermittent delivery of the materials to one or more oscillating screens is arranged to synchronize with the upward movement of that portion of the uppermost screen to which the materials are delivered. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, two superposed screens E, E<1> are oscillated simultaneously between an horizontal and an inclined position bv rods M, M<1> from a shaft J, from which is driven a feeding device B delivering the materials intermittently through shoots b<1>. The portions of the materials not passing through the screens gravitate from the inclined screens into shoots F, f<1>. The rotary feeding-devices B may be replaced by an intermittently-opening flap c<2>, Fig. 7, or by a bucket conveyer. The portion of screen below the pivots G, G', Fig. 1, may be dispensed with, and in a modification, Fig. 7, a screen pivoted at its upper edge is employed. The bars or prongs of the screen may be curved longitudinally as shown in Fig. 8. Fig. 9 shows a. bar removably secured to a pivot bar G of square cross-section by a plate g<4> and screws.
