Rotary filters.-A rotary-drum suction filter comprises a number of, say 10, compartments 1 - - 10 between concentric drums c, e and partitions f. The outer drum is perforated and covered by a filtering-cloth d. Liquid having been run into the trough v by a pipe 16, the compartments 1 - - 4 act as filter chambers, the residue being deposited on the cloth d, and the liquids passing into the chambers 1 - - 4 under the action of the suction in the pipes g, g<1>, h. As the filter rotates, the residue, which may be sprayed by a pipe 11, is dried by air drawn through it by the suction, and is pressed by spring-rollers y; a scraper 12 delivers it to a trough 13 with agitators 15. The central ends of the pipes h pass through one of the bearings of the drum to a disc which rotates over an apertured fixed disc connected to the suction pump. The compartment passing the scraper 12 is not subject to suction. If the contents of the trough 13 are too liquid they may be stirred up and run again into the trough v through the pipe 17.
