Abstract

178,815. Scher, L. S. April 21, 1921, [Convention date]. Mouthpieces and attachments.-An attachment for a telephone mouthpiece, designed to shut out extraneous noises and to prevent a conversation from being overheard, comprises a shell provided with an opening 3 for the mouthpiece and an opening 2 for the lips of the user. The shell is extended laterally into chambers which are filled with sound-absorbent material of a fibrous nature, such as felt. This is preferably contained in separate members 14 fitted in the sides and closed by caps 17, and consists of a layer 15 of loosely packed material and a layer 16 of denser material. The front wall 6 of the device bulges outwards, and the opening for the lips is formed with a rim 7. The transmitter mouthpiece fits against a ring of felt 10 on a flange formed by bending the rear wall.
